About the Event
Honoring the 2020 UNA Santa Barbara Peace Prize Awardees:
1. Thomas Tighe of Direct Relief International: Creating and advancing capacity in the developing world prize. Awarded by Rinaldo Brutoco.
2. Barbara Tellefson of Unity Shoppe: Advancing Human Rights and Dignity prize. Awarded by Deepa Willingham.
3. David Krieger of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation: Creating Peace in the World prize. Awarded by Joe White.
Three years ago, in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the United Nations Association Santa Barbara, we wanted to honor and acknowledge contributions by people living here for a more peaceful world and the Santa Barbara UNA Peace Prize was created. The criteria for the prize were that the nominees live in our community, have achieved demonstrable and measurable progress in creating peace in the world, advancing the cause of human rights internationally, and / or advancing the progress of developing nations. Over the past three years we have had the honor to recognize the work notable members of our community are doing around the world.
The United Nations Association of Santa Barbara will award the 2020 Santa Barbara UNA Peace Prizes, Thursday, September 24 at an online event hosted on Zoom. The event starts at 7:00 PM. Suggested donations are available below.
